Paul Cunney is a native of Swinford, County Mayo. He served as an Army officer in the Defence Forces for 13 years from 1991-2004. During his military career he served in Dublin and overseas with the United Nations in Lebanon, East Timor and Western Sahara.
During his military career Paul graduated from NUI Galway in 1997 with a BA (Hons) and in 2000 with an LLB (Hons). After retiring from the Defence Forces in 2004, he later qualified as a solicitor in April 2007 having served an apprenticeship with P.O’Connor & Son Solicitors in his native Swinford.
He worked post qualification in P.O’Connor & Son until January 2021 when he joined Callan Tansey. He specialises mainly in the area of personal injury litigation to include medical negligence, family law, Employment law and, in addition, chairs Mental Health Tribunals since his appointment in 2017.
Paul successfully completed a Law Society Diploma in employment law in 2014 and has represented both employer and employee in claims before the Workplace Relations Commission.
Paul joined the firm as an Associate solicitor in January 2021.
