    Meet the Speakers and Panellists

    Satinder is ranked in the Chambers & Partners legal directory in band 1 and also sits as a Deputy High Court Judge as well as being an accredited mediator and arbitrator. He is a leading member of Kings Chambers as well as being a joint Head of Chambers at 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square enabling him to bring highest levels of understanding to each case that he is involved in whether acting on behalf of claimants or defendants. Satinder is also involved in several philanthropic activities including his role a Patron of the Child Brain Injury Trust.

    A Full-time NHS Consultant Neurosurgeon for 12 years and thereafter active in private clinical practice in Harley Street, Donald has extensive experience preparing reports and giving evidence for both Plaintiff and Defendants in both spinal injurie and neurological/brain injury cases.

    Joe Brolly is one of Ireland’s best known journalists as well as being a high profile Barrister in both Irish jurisdictions.

    He is currently representing families at the Stardust Inquest.

     

     

     

     

     

    Noreen Roche RGN MSC (Care Consultant, Ergonomist & Safety Advisor) is a registered general nurse, in Ireland and the UK (revalidated June 2023). She holds a MSc in Health Ergonomics. She has provided a nationwide impartial professional service for over thirty years, providing independent person-centred reports and opinions for High Court proceedings, Mediations, and Tribunals resulting in a number of landmark High Court judgements. Noreen is a member of the British Academy of Experts, and the UK Expert Witness Institute. She is a board member of Praxis Care (charitable organisation) from 2015, and a former Chairperson of Praxis Housing Association.

    Mike Munro is a world-leading neonatologist.  He is a leading causation expert as to the root of children’s neurological injury. He has been involved in some of the biggest cases in both the UK and Ireland.

    Roger Murray SC, a national leader in the area of medical law, partner and head of the Clinical Negligence Unit of Callan Tansey Solicitors. In recognition of his expertise, the Government, in September 2020, granted him the title of “Senior Counsel”, one of the first seventeen solicitors to receive the honour in the history of the State. He has over 25 years’ experience in medical negligence litigation and has concluded many landmark cases and been involved in some of the largest awards for medical injury before the courts. He has extensive experience of appearing as an advocate for bereaved families at medical inquests nationwide.

    Doireann is an Award Winning Author and Barrister. Doireann has been involved in some of the biggest neurological cases in the Jurisdiction. She passionately champions for patient safety and is co-founder of the Irish Sepsis Foundation.

    Kathleen joined Carson McDowell in February 2022 from Clyde & Co LLP in London. She is an experienced healthcare lawyer with a proven track record in defending high value claims. Kathleen has acted on behalf of multiple NHS Trusts, the largest Medical Defence Organisations in the world and healthcare insurers. Kathleen has worked as a clinical negligence lawyer for more than 12 years. She is an experienced advocate, having represented clients before multiple Coroners and Masters of the High Court. Since returning to Ireland, Kathleen acts on behalf of doctors and dentists in complex High Court claims on the instruction from the largest Medical Defence Organisation globally

    Before qualifying as a solicitor, Kevin qualified and then practised as a medical doctor for 6 years in general surgery, urology and emergency medicine.

    Tadhg Dorgan is a barrister who trained at King Inns Dublin. A law graduate from UCC, he is also an accredited mediator from Harvard University. He is co-author of the publication Damages, by Dorgan and Mc Kenna, published by Roundhall, which is an analysis of Ireland’s complex damages law. He has spoken widely both in Ireland and England on the topic of Ireland’s compensation culture and awards for catastrophic injury cases.

    Hilda-Clare O’Shea is a solicitor practising for over 20 years.

    She is a partner in St. John Solicitors in Dublin.

    She has a special interest in mental health and capacity law. Hilda-Clare regularly represents patients detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act, 2001 and the Criminal Law (Insanity) Act, 2006. She is also instructed as an independent solicitor by the General Solicitor for Minors and Wards of Court to represent vulnerable children and adults.

    She has recently been appointed a Decision Making Representative with the Decision Support Service under the provisions of the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act, 2015 and awaits a new chapter in capacity law emerging….

     

    Niamh is a litigation lawyer who specialises in the area of Medical Negligence. She has been in practice for over 20 years, working exclusively on the Plaintiff side. She has a specialist interest in cases involving women and children including, birth injuries, cerebral palsy, delayed diagnosis, and female health issues. She is a firm advocate for Mediation and believes that key stakeholders working together will lead to a less adversarial system, best suited to resolving complex medical negligence litigation which will benefit Society as a whole.

    Christopher Callan has extensive experience in many areas of law over 30 years in practice which include property law, commercial transactions, licensing law, litigation, corporate governance and regulatory compliance. He specialises in Wills, succession planning, lifetime transfers and tax advice including law for the elderly and administration of estates.

    Christopher provides practical and client focused legal advice in a confidential and sensitive manner. He is an elected member of the Council of the Law Society.

     

    Johan is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Medical Negligence Department.  He is the solicitor in charge of Callan Tansey Solicitors’ Galway office.  Johan has personal experience of the catastrophic consequences of medical negligence.  His birth was grossly mismanaged.  He had to be resuscitated and the trauma of the delivery has left him with a near-total paralysis of his right arm, a condition known as brachial plexus palsy or Erb’s palsy.  Johan is the current Chairperson of the Erb’s Palsy Association of Ireland, a charity that represents those with the injury and among other concerns, advocates for regular training in prevention and management of shoulder dystocia, the birth complication associated with Erb’s palsy.

    David is currently Joint Managing Partner with Niamh Ní Mhurchú. He has successfully concluded many complex medical negligence cases in Ireland across a number of areas. He has been involved in some of the largest damages awards in the state’s history. David also represents families at Inquests and has given lectures to the Law Society of Ireland and a number of other organisations. David is a contributor to both National and regional media and has co-authored a book on medical Inquests. David believes passionately in access to Justice for his clients.

    Rory Murphy is Director of Financial Planning in Davy based in the Western Office in Galway. Rory is responsible for developing and implementing bespoke financial plans for clients to ensure they identify, prioritise and achieve their financial goals and income needs.  Rory holds a degree in Commerce from NUI Galway together with Diploma’s in Pensions, Applied Alternative Investments and Financial Planning.  He is a Registered Stock Broker, CFP® Practitioner, Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA), European Financial Advisor (EFA) & Specialist Investment Adviser (SIA).
