This year marks the sixth year of the popular Essay Competition. In keeping with the Yeatsian theme, the title of this years' essay is:-
Caught in that sensual music all neglect Monuments of unageing intellect. Does our society believe that the old should even have a voice anymore; and what do we lose, if we lose something, when we dispense with the wisdom of the ages?
Roger Murray, Joint Managing Partner at Callan Tansey told the Sligo Champion, "we are delighted to launch the 2017 Callan Tansey Solicitors Essay Competition and to welcome on board The Sligo Champion as Media Partner and The Liber Bookstore as sponsor of the Highly Commended Category.
The Competition would not be possible without the support of our local Secondary Schools and we thank the various Principals, English Teachers and Students for their participation in the Competition. We are also delighted to welcome back John Waters as Competition Adjudicator. We will be issuing tips from John over the coming weeks as to what he will be looking for in this year's Essay".
In keeping with the Essay Title, the 2017 Competition will endorse Age Action whose Mission is to achieve fundamental change in the lives of all older people.
The competition is open to all Fourth and Fifth year Secondary School students. The closing date for entries is 1st March 2017. A prize-giving ceremony will take place at The Hawkswell Theatre on 30th March 2017.
